Yeah a 50's movie poster is a great idea. You know, and there's so many great monster movies from japan - godzilla, mothrallia, king kong? I'm sure you can find some inspiration from these. Good luck!
i would throw a transparent color, or mess with the tinting of your movie poster to help it look more vintage; i'm sure a couple people in class could tell you a few different ways to accomplish this.
I'm glad that you've finally narrowed your bajillion thoughts down into one feasible project...haha. Since a 50's poster would be nice, I think it would be cool to shoot the movie like a really old silent film or stop motion animated feature, really scratchy and in black and white, with the spider moving jaggedly and spontaneously (which would probably be inevitable if you've never done stop motion animation). I'm looking forward to the final premiere.
